Ground Rules Teleclass Series - Ground Rule 7
Ground Rule #7: Jointly Design Next Steps and Ways To Test Disagreements
The teleconference was very well organized from the registration to the final good-bye. You were easy to follow; the timing was good; the information was helpful. I've taken your skilled facilitator workshop (YEARS ago) and frequently refer to your book and appreciated having the chance to hear directly from you again. I wasn't anticipating remaining on the call for the entire time, but once you began talking, I couldn't, didn't want to, break away before the end. Thank you for the class.Anonymous
Are you in conversations where people:
- Often get off topic
- Have different ideas about the purpose and agenda for the meeting
- Can't agree on what the facts are
- Feel like one or more people are controlling the meeting without others' consent
This ground rule is all about jointly deciding next steps so that people are committed to them. For example, this means sounds like proposing an agenda for a meeting and genuinely asking "What do you think about this agenda? Anything you'd change?" This is very hard if you're whetted to a particular approach, or if you're not open to alternate views.
In this teleclass, I'll help you learn how to genuinely involve people in deciding next steps without sacrificing your needs. We'll focus on the techniques I use with my clients to achieve this, as well as a new way of thinking that makes the techniques effective.
Here's What You Will Learn
We'll specifically focus on:
- beginning conversations,
- moving from topic to topic within conversations,
- dealing with people who seem "off topic,"
- finishing conversations,
- and resolving disagreements about facts.
What the Teleclass Will Be Like
Your stories, opportunities and challenges will be the practice field. I'll share some key concepts – mostly via advance reading – and we'll quickly move into "clinic" mode, where we work together to make the material practical and meaningful for you.
We'll do all this in a fast-paced, focused way, and the class will be highly interactive. We're limiting participation to ensure this, and the teleclass will be an hour long.
There will be a short written assignment beforehand, as well as some prereading. This will help us focus, in the call, on your learning and your real situations.
If you can't attend, you can purchase a recording of the entire class. If you choose this option, you will still receive all the supporting materials and assignments.
If you are still reading, I think you'll find the teleclass quite valuable. I invite you to participate.
When You Purchase This Teleclass, You Will Receive:
- The advance assignment and course materials to help you get the most out of the teleclass.
- The dial-in information for the teleclass (if you're participating live)
- The digital recording of the teleclass. We will send you a link to download it (or, if you need it, ship you a CD recording), along with the materials above.
- The complete transcript of the call, if purchased.
