I wish I had been exposed to Roger's approach in my early days - it gives anyone the skills and the courage to have challenging conversations meaningfully and productively. Thomas Zgambo
Corporate Ombudsman, Coca-Cola Enterprises
Past President, Ombudsmen Association

Most people give challenging feedback in a way that contributes to a defensive reaction.
Research and my 25 years of consulting and facilitation experience tell me that there's a 98% chance that you do the same, and that you're at best dimly aware of this.

I've designed this teleclass to help you give "challenging" feedback directly while minimizing your contribution to a defensive reaction.
The key word in the course title is "making"; people may still become defensive, but you will no longer be contributing to that.

The practical consequence of this?
If you implement what you learn in this teleclass, you'll see a dramatic drop in the number of people that react defensively when you have some challenging feedback to share.

You will get enough information and personal experience with my approach to decide whether and how you want to apply it in your real world. If you decide the journey is worth it, I'll help you maximize your learning curve and minimize the challenges on your way.

My colleagues and I use the same approach I'll be teaching you. We have worked for 25 years to develop and apply this approach, and have learned what works and what doesn't. This approach is the basis for our two books: The Skilled Facilitator and The Skilled Facilitator Fieldbook.

What the Teleclass Will Be Like

Your stories, opportunities and challenges will be the practice field. I'll share some key concepts – mostly via advance reading – and we'll quickly move into "clinic" mode, where we work together to make the material practical and meaningful for you.

We'll do all this in a fast-paced, focused way, and the class will be highly interactive. We're limiting participation to 12 people to ensure this, and the teleclass will be 90 minutes long.

There will be a short written assignment beforehand, as well as some prereading. This will help us focus, in the call, on your learning and your real situations.

If you can't attend, you can purchase a recording of the entire class. If you choose this option, you will still receive all the supporting materials and assignments.

We'll Cover the Following Content

What Makes Feedback "Challenging". We'll talk about the dilemmas that giving challenging feedback presents, and how typical approaches handle this dilemma counterproductively.

How and Why I Give Challenging Feedback. Early in the call, I'll demonstrate the approach I take, and then we'll unpack my reasoning. This will help you quickly identify your reactions to our approach – positive and negative.

Building Agreements about Giving (and Receiving) Challenging Feedback. The single most important intervention I make on this issue is to build an agreement with others about whether and how I'll share challenging feedback. We'll discuss the theory and practice of that here.

If you are still reading, I think you'll find the teleclass quite valuable. I invite you to participate.

When you purchase the recording, you will receive:

  • The advance assignment and course materials to help you get the most out of the teleclass.
  • The digital recording of the teleclass. We will send you a link to download it (or, if you need it, ship you a CD recording), along with the materials above.
  • The complete transcript of the call, if purchased.
